Policy Workshop on Trade, Circular Economy and Sustainability

Held under the WTO Chairs Programme in September 2021, this virtual workshop explored the alignment of trade policies with circular economy goals to support sustainable development. Aiming to address post-pandemic challenges, the forum brought together academics, policymakers, and international organizations to build a collective understanding of regenerative economic models. Key strategic issues discussed included agribusiness, electronics, investment policy, and the pivotal role of SMEs in driving an inclusive green recovery.

UGM International Forum (UIF)

The UGM International Forum 2022 focused on inclusive and sustainable development across Southeast Asia, Latin America, and the Caribbean (SEA-LAC). Representing WTO and UNCTAD initiatives, the forum linked trade and environmental issues to meet global commitments under the SDGs and the Paris Agreement. It served as a vital platform for strengthening South-South and Triangular Cooperation (SSTC) through two main pillars: the Academic Forum and the Circular Economy Forum.

Forum Ekonomi Sirkular (Circular Economic Forum)

The CEF is a strategic platform facilitating the transition from linear to circular economic models. By bringing together diverse stakeholders, the forum promotes waste minimization and resource optimization. Its diverse programs—ranging from expert-led seminars and talk shows on global regulations to practical supply chain workshops and innovation exhibitions—highlight sustainable business practices and community-driven circular initiatives.

Indonesia Green Principal Award (IGPA)

A collaborative initiative between CWTS UGM and Janitra Bhumi Indonesia (JBI) since 2022, IGPA serves as a knowledge-sharing hub for 124 school principals across Indonesia. The program aims to establish Circular Schools—educational institutions that integrate sustainability and circular economy principles into both their management and curriculum. This holistic approach empowers schools to drive environmental, economic, and social transformation within their communities.

Circular School Partnership Program (CSPP)

Born from the vision of IGPA alumni, the CSPP is a multi-stakeholder platform designed to accelerate the Circular School movement globally. Moving beyond basic environmental awareness, CSPP advocates for a reformative economic system education to counter the exploitative nature of linear economies. It stands as a robust community within the education sector, turning circular economy theories into impactful, real-world actions.
