Greetings from Geneva!

Within this report, I would like to convey the report of my three-day participation in the consecutive public discussions of WTO Public Forum 2011 in WTO headquarters, Geneva, Switzerland. This event is an annual event conducted by the WTO headquarters purported to accommodate and discuss current global trade issues from various perspectives. This event involves trade stakeholders from around the world, e.g. government representatives, academicians, NGO representatives, international civil servants on behalf of many international organizations, etc.

The main title for this year is “Seeking Answers to Global Trade Challenges.” This year’s discussion focused on four core themes:

1. Food security (what role can trade play in ensuring food security?)
2. Trade in natural resources (how does trade affect the sustainability of natural resources?)
3. “Made in the World”: (more and more products are “Made in the World.” How does measuring trade flows in added value terms affect the way we analyze international economics and conduct trade policy?)
4. What next for the international trading system?

Some 46 sessions were organized over the three days of the forum to focus on these above-mentioned themes.

Melalui postingan ini saya ingin melaporkan hasil partisipasi saya dalam rangkaian acara WTO Public Forum (19-21 September 2011) di Geneva. Acara ini merupakan acara tahunan yang diselenggarakan oleh kantor pusat WTO dalam rangka mengumpulkan dan mendiskusikan isu-isu perdagangan terkini dari berbagai perspektif. Acara ini dihadiri oleh berbagai stakeholder perdagangan dari berbagai penjuru dunia. Tema besar untuk forum publik kali ini adalah “Seeking Answers to Global Trade Challenges,” dilihat dari empat pendekatan, yaitu:

• Food Security
• Trade in Natural Resources
• Made in the World and Value-Added Trade
• What next for the Multilateral Trading System?
